Chromebooks Make Huge Impact at Lester Prairie Schools

This fall Lester Prairie Schools purchased an additional 76 Chromebooks.  The school's collection of 178 Chromebooks are housed in mobile carts which can be moved throughout the building for access by students and staff.  Currently, Chromebooks are used by students in grades 4-12.

With Chromebooks students can quickly access many Google Apps including Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides. Google Apps are cloud based so all of the work a student creates and shares is stored in their Google account in the cloud. Cloud based documents allow students to share and collaborate on projects, with the option for multiple student having access to edit the same document at the same time. Students are not limited to Google Apps on the Chromebooks. They can use them to access internet, resources and educational websites as well as for standards testing.

Several teachers at Lester Prairie School use Google Classroom to create and share assignments electronically with their students. Teachers can post announcements and assignments, and share documents with students. Students can keep track of what’s due on the Classroom Assignments page, access assignments and turn in their completed work.

Chromebooks have several advantages over other tech devices. The relatively low cost and easy management make the devices appealing to schools. Chrome management offers a secure environment for students to work and learn. Unlike tablets, Chromebooks have built in keyboards making them better devices for typing reports and papers.

When asked, students responded that they found the Chromebooks helpful in completing assignments and appreciated being able to access relevant and updated information quickly during class. 

SCHOOL GET DONATION OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Beyond Relaxation collected school supplies for the Lester Prairie School through a "Give to Get" Program. The program allowed clients to receive 20% off of a product such as a shampoo or conditioner if they brought in school supplies to donate. Lester Prairie Kindergarteners Visit Fire Station

 The Kindergarteners of Lester Prairie Elementary School went on a field trip to the Lester Prairie Fire Station.  Firefighters Matt Tonn and Jeff Forcier made it a special experience for the students.  The students were giving a ride to the fire station in the rescue truck.  While at the fire station they learned about things they can do at home to prevent fires from happening and how to safely get out of their home if a fire were to occur.  During the visit Mr. Tonn also put on all of his fire fighting equipment so the children would see what a fire fighter coming into their home would look like and he reminded them that they should go toward the fire fighters and not try to hide. The students were then given a ride back to school where we made fire prevention posters and learned more about fire safety.

Thrivent Financial and St. Peter Lutheran Church Team Up for School Supplies

Linda Rehmann and Debbie Marks had the opportunity to purchase school supplies for students in Lester Prairie who may be financially unable to provide their own.  The school supplies will be stored in the office and utilized for students who may be short on some of their supplies.  Some of the supplies provided include calculators, backpacks, headphones, pens, pencils, folders, and many others.  Thank you to the grant from Thrivent and the parishoners of St. Peter Lutheran Church for their support.
