Become a Minnesota Reading Corps literacy tutor at Lester Prairie Elementary!

Whether you’re looking to explore a new career in education, reenter the workforce or simply want to work with kids, you’re ready for the next thing. Become a part-time (20 hours/week) Minnesota Reading Corps literacy tutor at Lester Prairie Elementary and start creating meaningful growth in our students.

We are looking for people who are dedicated to our school and the Lester Prairie community. By joining Minnesota Reading Corps, you can be one of more than 1,000 trained literacy tutors placed in schools across the state. Tutors are parents, grandparents, recent college grads, and mid-career professionals. You will guide students toward becoming successful readers by third grade, see real results and make a lasting impact in our students’ lives, as well as in your own career. You’ll not only tutor students who need extra support; you’ll also make a meaningful connection with the school and our community.

During your eleven month of service as a part-time Minnesota Reading Corps tutor, you’ll receive extensive training, support and professional development opportunities. In addition, you’ll receive a living stipend of about $263 biweekly and an education award of $2,822.  All necessary training is provided and no licensure is necessary.

Lester Prairie School Staff Receive Service Awards

Lester Prairie School District celebrated their staff members with years of service awards.  The following staff members pictured from left to right, front to back were given a plaque for their distinguished service within the Lester Prairie School District.  Also honored was Carolynn Maas who will retire at the end of the school year.  The Lester Prairie School Board and Community would like to thank all staff members on a wonderful school year, their years of service, and a happy retirement!

Elementary and High School Awards Day

The Lester Prairie Elementary and High School held their annual Awards Day on Thursday, May 29th.  Students won awards for physical fitness testing, academics, participation in extra-curriculars, perfect attendance, and many other areas.  The end of the year PBIS drawing also took place with the giving away of a 32" LED television to Kayla Lorentz, and numerous other prizes including a stereo system, powerade's, and sport's balls.  Some of the awards that stood out were the Principal Believe in You Award and Scholarship Nomination, which was won by Nick Machemehl.  Perfect attendance was wonderful with the largest number in recent years.  Other notable awards were the Academic Excellence Awards which are associated with the Gathering of Champions, which will take place on August 1st at the Mall of America.  Students for the Academic Excellence Awards were nominated by their teachers for areas of perseverance, academic excellence, and participation in school activities.  Awards Day was a culmination of a year of dedication and hard work by students and staff members.
